Political dialogue between Ukraine and Ireland

Ireland recognized Independence of Ukraine on 31 December 1991, diplomatic relations established on 1 April 1992. The resident Embassy of Ukraine started to function in August 2003. Since 2000 the Ireland’s Honorary Consulate is functioning in Ukraine.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Ireland H.E.Mr.Sergii Reva presented Letters of Credence to the President of Ireland on 28 September 2010.

Bilateral contacts

At the presidential and governmental level
No official meetings between the Presidents or Heads of Governments were conducted so far.
On 3 April 2005 – the President of Ukraine met with the Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs (with special responsibility for European Affairs) N.Tracy at the Shannon Airport, Ireland.

At the level of Foreign Ministers
5-6 July 2005 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, D.Ahern T.D., paid an official visit to Ukraine.

7-8 February 2006 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, B.Tarasyuk, paid an official visit to Ireland.

27 September 2010 the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, K.Gryshchenko, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ireland, M.Martin T.D., took place in NY in the framework of 65th UN General Assembly.

1 July 2011 the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, K.Gryshchenko, and the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, E.Gilmore T.D., took place in Vilnius.

28 September 2012 the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, K.Gryshchenko, and the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, E.Gilmore T.D., took place in NY in the framework of 67th UN General Assembly.

26 September 2013 the meeting between the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, L.Kozhara, and the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, E.Gilmore T.D., took place in NY in the framework of 68th UN General Assembly.

16-17 July 2015 the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, Charles Flanagan T.D., paid an official visit to Ukraine.

27-28 June 2018 the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, paid an official visit to Ireland.

5 December 2019 in Bratislava Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine V.Prystaiko met with the Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland S.Coveney on the margins of the 26th OSCE Ministerial Council.

Interparliamentary dialogue
6-9 October 2005 року – the Chairman of Dáil Éireann of Oireachtas Dr. Rory O'Hanlon TD paid an official visit to Ukraine. On 23-24 March 2010 the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mr.V.Lytvyn paid an official visit to Ireland. Currently the Irish Party considers an invitation to the Chairman of Dáil Éireann Mr.S.Barrett to pay a visit to Ukraine.

Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries
13 November 2018, Kyiv - trilateral political consultations at the political directors level of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ireland and Lithuania.

25 November 2019, Dublin - bilateral political consultations headed by Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergiy Kyslytsya and Political Director Sonja Hyland and EU Director General Joe Hackett from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland.
