Recognition of Ukraine: 31 December 1991.

Establishment of diplomatic relations: 1 April 1992.

Diplomatic missions: the Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland (http://ireland.mfa.gov.ua/ua), the Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine (non-resident, www.irishembassy.cz) and the Honorary Consulate of Ireland in Kyiv (www.irishconsulate.kiev.ua).

The Embassy of Ireland in Ukraine with a residence in Kyiv is scheduled to open in the second half of the year 2020.

Political dialogue

Bilateral relations between Ukraine and Ireland are actively developing now.

Ireland takes a consistent position in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, condemning Russia's actions on occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol, as well as its military support of illegal armed formations in Donbas.

On 3 April 2014 the Dáil Éireann adopted a motion on support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and condemnation of illegal annexation of the Crimea.

In addition, Ireland is a co-sponsor of the UN resolution “The territorial integrity of Ukraine” (March 2014), “Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Ukraine”, “The problem of militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol (Ukraine), as well as parts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov”, and also continues to support Ukraine in leading international organizations, including the Council of Europe and OSCE.

On 27 January 2015 Ireland became the 14th EU country and the first among Western European countries, which ratified Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

29 September 2011,Warsaw - meeting between the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and An Taoiseach of Ireland Enda Kenny (the “Eastern Partnership” Summit).

27 July 2012, London - meeting between the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and An Taoiseach of Ireland Enda Kenny.

24 June 2013, Luxembourg – meeting between the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Eamon Gilmore.

Dialogue on the level of Ministries for Foreign Affairs:

5-6 July 2005 – official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland D.Ahern to Ukraine;

7-8 February 2006 – official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Borys Tarasyuk to Ireland.

27 September 2010, New York – meeting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine K.Gryshchenko and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland M.Martin at the 65th UN GA session.

1 July 2011, Vilnius – meeting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine K.Gryshchenko with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland E.Gilmore at the Summit of the "Community of Democracies".

28 September 2012, New York – meeting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine K.Gryshchenko with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland E.Gilmore at the 67th UN GA session.

26 September 2013, New York – meeting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine L.Kozhara with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland E.Gilmore at the 68th UN GA session.

16-17 July 2015 – official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Charles Flanagan to Ukraine.

27-28 June 2018 – official visit of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to Ireland.

5 December 2019, Bratislava – meeting of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vadym Prystaiko with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Simon Coveney on the margins of the OSCE Ministerial.

19 May 2020 - telephone conversation of the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba with the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland Simon Coveney.

12 rounds of bilateral political consultation were held both in Ukraine and Ireland.
