26 April 2014 17:07

On 26 April 2014 the Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland Mr. Sergii Reva participated in a ceremony of commemoration of the 28th Anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster which was held in Cork.

The event was attended by Cllr. Catherine Clancy, Lord-Mayor of Cork, other local authorities, representatives of civic society organizations and volunteers of the “Greater Chernobyl Cause” foundation.

In his speech the Ambassador stressed that the Chornobyl catastrophe remained a tragic page in the history of Ukraine. He stressed that Ukrainian Government tries to do its best to help affected people. However at present time due to the internal economic crisis and external military aggression its possibilities to help are limited.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the “Greater Chernobyl Cause” founder Ms. Fiona Corcoran and her volunteers for devoted activities aimed at realisation of international humanitarian programs in Ukraine.

The ceremony included a common prayer, poem readings, candle light, minute of silence as well as laying wreath on behalf of the Embassy of Ukraine to the memorial sign to the Chornobyl accident victims.
