Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Volodymyr Khandogiy had a meeting with the President of the Supreme Court of the UK, The Right Hon Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers.
The issues of deepening the bilateral cooperation in judicial sphere were discussed at the meeting.
The President of the Supreme Court of the UK acknowledged a great interest in cooperation with Ukraine in judicial sphere and expressed the readiness of the Supreme Court of Great Britain for strengthening the bilateral dialogue with Ukrainian side in this regard. To the end Lord Phillips handed over the invitation addressed to the Head of the Supreme Court of Ukraine V.Onopenko to pay a visit to the Great Britain next spring.
Ambassador of Ukraine Volodymyr Khandogiy expressed the gratitude to the British side for rendering the technical assistance to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in the framework of the project “Supporting the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the United Kingdom” and emphasized the importance of the British experience in the judicial sphere for the Ukrainian side.
At the meeting the British side was also informed about the run up of the elections to local authorities in Ukraine, which took place on 31 October 2010 and was provided with the comprehensive information on activities of the authority of Ukraine aimed at stabilizing of the internal political situation in Ukraine. The process of the judiciary and constitutional reforms in Ukraine was particularly highlighted at the meeting.
