Ukrainians are full participants of victory over Nazism and will not allow using these historic events to meet the revanchist needs of Moscow
09 May 2017 16:59

The contribution of Ukrainians to the victory over Nazism is huge - battles took place on our territory, millions of our fellow citizens fought the enemy side-by-side with other nations, thus, the people of Ukraine is a full participant of victory, as stated by President Petro Poroshenko.

Congratulating everyone who came to the National Museum of History of Ukraine in the World War II on the Day of Victory over Nazism in the World War II, the Head of State noted that bitter memories of those years stay with the people of Ukraine being conveyed to the future generations.

“Of course, the war had a global nature. Of course, nations of the former Soviet Union fought together. However, the war also had its separate, Ukrainian dimension, which is certainly the main for us, Ukrainians,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.

He noted that this holiday will continue to exist, but we, Ukrainians, will not celebrate it under Moscow’s scenario anymore. “It cannot be described by two paints only, black and white, and it seems that there are no more paints in Soviet and Russian pallette,” the President said.

The Head of State emphasized that Ukraine strongly rejects Moscow’s attempts to use victory over Nazism in the World War II to meet its revanchist, imperial and expansionist needs.

“The Second World War ended 72 years ago and the Kremlin is still eager to command Ukraine like four Ukrainian frontlines of 1940s. Today, in Moscow, during the “Immortal regiment” procession, they promised to carry portraits of Russian militants sent to Donbas to kill Ukrainians; those who came with the sword to us and that is why they died by the sword. This is a true symbol of the so-called friendship, friendship in big and wicked quotes,” he noted.

Petro Poroshenko called the “Immortal regiment” procession a sophisticated model of political speculations on people's feelings. “Moscow came up with it not to honor memory of the defenders, but for the Russian expansion in the neighboring countries to be assisted by not only those alive,” the President regretfully said.

He noted that Ukrainians today remember everyone who sacrificed life for the Homeland. “Low bow to those veterans who are with us, thank God. And to the children of war. And to those who survived dreadful hard times of fight against Nazism and now, in declining years, have to witness another war, another aggressor, another occupant,” the Head of State stressed.

The President emphasized that posterity of those who fought the enemy more than 70 years ago defends the native land, family and home today.

The Head of State underlined that the Ukrainian army has been restored today, Ukrainian society has become stronger, aware of its history, traditions, common fate, glorious past and in the pursuit of good future and protection of their European choice Ukrainians will gain victory.
“We will definitely will. This is our sacred duty to the fallen in the World War II and to the heroes who sacrificed life for a free Ukraine these days. This a duty to our children. This is a duty to all future generations,” the President noted.
