On 19 September 2012 a reception on the occasion of the 21th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine took place at the Mansion House in Dublin.
The reception was attended by the Ceann Comhairle Sean Barrett, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade David Cooney, Lord Mayor of Dublin Naoise Ó Muirí, T.D.s and senators, diplomats, representatives of the Irish public and business community as well as of the Ukrainian diaspora.
In his speech the Ambassador of Ukraine Sergii Reva outlined the main achievements of Ukraine since Independence, focusing on current political and economic developments. He noted, in particular, success of Euro-2012 in Ukraine, preparations for the parliamentary elections and forthcoming chairmanship of Ukraine in the OSCE.
Special emphasis was placed on promoting European integration of Ukraine, in particular the initialing of the Association Agreement between EU and Ukraine.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin in his speech stressed the historical importance of Ukraine's independence and noted the progressive nature of Irish-Ukrainian relations.
