The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the adoption of the resolution “Support for lasting peace in Ukraine”, initiated by Ukraine within the framework of the resumed 11th Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly.
The adopted document is a clear confirmation of the international community's commitment to the principles of the UN Charter and the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, extending to its territorial waters.
The resolution notes the continued and intensified attacks by the Russian Federation against civilians and civilian objects, critical energy infrastructure of Ukraine, and highlights the significant deterioration of the humanitarian situation.
Ukraine has consistently advocated for an end to the war and the achievement of peace. Our state has always demonstrated its readiness for the peace process and is actively participating in peace efforts initiated by the United States and supported by European and other countries.
Today's resolution clearly calls for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire, as well as for a complete exchange of prisoners of war, the release of all unlawfully detained persons, and the return of all internees and civilians forcibly transferred or deported, including children.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its sincere gratitude to the 107 UN Member States that supported the resolution, as well as to all partners who contributed to the development of a broad international coalition in support of this initiative.
Despite international peace efforts, the Russian Federation shows no real willingness to end its aggression, counting on the international community to tire of the conflict. The vote results proved these calculations wrong, confirming the strong and consistent unity of the UN member states.
Ukraine will continue to work towards achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law, as well as the full restoration of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
