On 23 October 2014 in the Institute of International and European Affairs in Dublin a well-known Irish politician, former President of the European Parliament Mr. Pat Cox made a keynote address on the topic: The Ukrainian crisis and geopolitics: an echo of the past or shape of things to come.
Speaking at the follow-up debate the Ambassador of Ukraine to Ireland Sergii Reva emphasized the necessity of continuing sanctions against the Russian Federation as a country which for the first time in post-war period breached fundamental principles of International Law by occupying the territory of a sovereign state. According to the Ambassador, sanctions may not have an immediate impact but will be effective in curbing the aggressor in the long run.
Mr. Reva stressed the necessity for the EU to pursue a common and firm policy on counteracting Russian aggression.
