The Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland on illegal travels to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol
11 November 2019 14:00

It has come to our attention that regardless of regular calls of the Embassy to Irish nationals to refrain from illegal visiting of the Crimean Peninsula, which is temporarily occupied by Russia, such incidents still take place.

In particular, Russian media reported about the Irish sailing vessel crew from Cork who took part in the so-called sailing regatta “Sevastopol International Cup”  on 3-6 October 2019 in the Sevastopol bay, Crimea.

The Embassy advises strongly against all illegal travel to Crimea and reminds again that Ukrainian law provides for criminal offences in relation to foreign nationals entering the peninsula without Ukraine`s official authorisation.

Crimea is a region of Ukraine under temporary control by the Russian authorities since its illegal attempted annexation in 2014 where high tensions, regular violations of human rights and the lack of rule of law prevail.
