In connection with the article “Irish trade mission to Russia discussed potential Crimean investments”, published by “The Irish Times” on 23 December 2017, the Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland considers it necessary to share some comments and warnings.
After Russia treacherously occupied Ukrainian Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol in 2014, it spared no effort to draw international partners in crafty schemes meant to annex the region.
Unfortunately, some Irish businesses found themselves in a focus of undivided Kremlin’s attention, which tries various ways to entangle them in unlawful enterprise in the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula contrary to international law and sanctions imposed on Russia, including by Ireland.
There will be no choice but to regret if some representatives of the Irish business risk their reputation and give in to temptation disregarding common position of international community, in particular UN, EU, OSCE etc., undermining thus coordinated international efforts aimed at restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Ireland calls on Irish nationals and institutions to refrain from illegally visiting Crimea without Ukraine’s official authorization.
Otherwise, you may bear responsibility in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation, including a ban from entering Ukraine.
